Tortola, a mountainous island of 13 miles long and 3 miles wide, is the largest of the British Virgin Islands and features several white-sand beaches and lookout/viewing spots. "Road Town", the capital of the British Virgin Islands (BVI), has a harbor dotted with sailing boats and is known as a yachting hub.

One of the coolest cruise ship terminals and entrances to an island from the dock was the Cyril B. Romney Tortola Pier Park main entrance building, with shops below and the Coconut Lounge on the second floor.

There are plenty of shopping and eating places near the pier.

Steel drums are popular throughout the Caribbean. Here is a small Steel Drum Band in the shopping area.

The BVI has one 44-bed public (free) hospital (Peebles Hospital) pictured left and one 8-bed private hospital (Bougainvillea Clinic) pictured right. Both are located in Road Town, Tortola.

For those staying on the island there are many hotel choices, such as Maria's By The Sea.

Tortola was one of the hardest hit islands by Hurricane Irma. About 80% of the islands' buildings were damaged or destroyed and while repairs have been productive, there are still some areas that are yet to be repaired/rebuilt.

Although cows are owned by farmers and not wild, they are allowed to roam and graze freely.

Our open-sided tour bus was nice and breezy but a bit of a rough ride up and down the narrow, hilly, roads.
