Located in Central American, the country of Panama is 480 miles long and ranges from 37 to 110 miles wide. Bordered by Costa Rica on the west and Columbia on the east, Panama gained its independence from Columbia in 1903 through the support of the United States, whose interests lied in building a canal to allow ship transit between the Pacific and Atlantic oceans. Panama remains one of the most unequal countries in the world, with a wide gap between the rich and the poor. The tour I went on ("A Walk through Panama City: Old & New") began in Gatun Lake via tender and ended in Colon where we remet our cruise ship at the dock.
