The statue of Blas de Lezo in Cartagena, Colombia, is located in the Plaza de Blas de Lezo, in front of the Castillo San Felipe de BarajasBlas. Blas de Lezo was a Spanish naval officer who was nicknamed "Mediohombre" (Half-Man) due to severe injuries sustained in battle, including the loss of his left leg, left eye, and the loss of use of his right arm. He was a prominent figure in the Battle of Cartagena de Indias, where he helped to successfully defend the city against a vastly larger British naval force.

The Convento de la Popa in Cartagena no longer functions as a monastery, but is a religious museum and tourist attraction. It is open to visitors and offers stunning views of Cartagena from the hilltop.

First built in 1580, the Iglesia de San Pedro Claver (San Pedro Claver church) went through several rebuilds and renames. Around 1654, after his death, it was renamed for St. Peter Claver who worked among the poor of Cartagena, especially ministering to the African slaves who were brought there. I did not get an outside picture so this is a STOCK PHOTO.

Allowing entry into the country, Cartagena's large, modern cruise terminal has many shops and eateries as well as an aviary and wildlife preserve pictured here. Above is the South American native blue-and-yellow macaw and a group of pink flamingos. Below, is a video where you can hear what it sounded like in the aviary.
